10 Effective Preparation Tips for EXAMS!


As it is said, Examinations are formidable even to the best prepared, for the greatest fool may ask more than the wisest can answer! Different kinds of examinations require different strategies. So let us scour our brain with some of the examination tips that will help us in effective learning.
  1. MANAGING THE STUDY SPACE
    We often get distracted from our books when examination is knocking at our door. It is important to manage our study space which will help us to focus on our studies. Ensure you have enough light in your room as studying in dark is not recommended. You also need to have space to keep your books and notes, a comfortable chair and a study table. Keep the magazines and computer games out of your sight. You can play light music in the background as complete silence can make you drowsy. This differs from person to person. So you need to think carefully and organize your space.
  1. MAKE A STUDY SCHEDULE
    We often tend to fail at time management. As a result, we are unable to complete our syllabus on time. One way to avoid this is making a study time-table. This will help you to go through all your subjects and will allow you to have time for leisure. Studying continuously for longer hours can get boring. So, it is essential to make a schedule before examinations and work each day accordingly.
  1. TAKE BREAKS
    Taking breaks in between your studies is helpful and effective. It helps to improve concentration. You can study for half an hour or an hour at a stretch and then take 5 to 10 mins break.  This will refresh your mind and improve concentration.
  1. USE CHARTS, DIAGRAMS AND  FLASHCARDS
    Visual aids help in easy recognition and recollection of concepts. Thus, make use of charts and diagrams as much as possible for your exam preparation. Flash cards are also of great help when it comes to recollecting difficult theories and formulae.
  1. STUDY IN A GROUP
    Group study is one of the oldest methods to prepare for examination. Make a small group of 3-4 friends, and make defined rules for group study. Set goals for each day or session and try to stick to it. Offer rewards, like tea break or 10-minute outdoor game, for achieving the goals.  Group study is also a great way to clear doubts and discuss things to remember. If used effectively and with discipline, it can lead to fantastic results.
  1. PRACTICE PREVIOUS YEARS’ EXAMINATION PAPERS
    This is one of the most effective ways of preparing for exams. This helps you to get an idea about the format of the question paper. You can also practice to finish the paper within the set time limit.  Practicing previous years’ papers is not a sure shot way to success, however, it can give you an extra edge and who knows the examiners may repeat them.
  1. NO LAST MINUTE “CRAMMING”
    Many students don’t care to study till the last minute and then try to make the maximum of the last night before exams. However, too much caffeine and cramming are hazardous to true learning. Cramming cannot rescue in case the examiner decides to alter the way questions have been framed in previous years.   
  1. NO “JUNK” BUT ONLY HEALTHY FOOD
    Eat a balanced meal all day including vegetables, protein, and carbohydrates. On the day of examination, keep your meal light as it will be easy to digest and also help you to boost your concentration and energy.
  1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND MEDITATE
    It is important to keep yourself hydrated so drink a lot of water all day. Meditating once a day will help you to focus, retain the information in your brain and reduce the stress.
  1. PLAN YOUR EXAMINATION DAY
    It is important to plan for your examination day. Make rules you can follow, make a check-list of the items required for the day, check the route map and calculate travel time. This will reduce your pre-examination stress and will make it a hassle free day for you!
