Dubai to double number of schools

Dubai is a rapidly growing international city and is a hub of  trade and business. This has attracted a lot of migrants to Dubai, along with their families and children.

An article in the Khaleej times ,  http://www.khaleejtimes.com/news/education/dubai-to-nearly-double-private-school-capacity ,  in May mentions  the number of schools is set to double in the next 10 years. The forecast brings out many facets and reflects the changing landscape of this beautiful city.  While this no doubt gives parents many more options it also poses a challenge to the authorities in ensuring that the quality of education isn't affected.

Dubai is slowly emerging as a international hub for education, given its proximity to Africa, Europe and South Asia. It should not lose the respect and admiration it has earned.

How can this be done?

  •  Have a strong 'Teach the tutor' programme to ensure teachers not only have good domain knowledge but also strong communication skills, pedagogic talent and interpersonal skills to deal with students coming from different cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Increasing the number of public libraries .
  • Education is not just about academics. Dubai schools must emphasize on all round development of the child. Academics , Extra Curricular activities and Personality Development.
  • Attract bright teaching talent from across the world.
  • Invest into scientific research to develop strong academic knowledge base.
  • Academia - Industry linkage must be developed so that students are ready for tomorrow's industry requirements.
Not achieving any one of the above suggestions could potentially cause Dubai to have generations of academically qualified but non industry or research worthy young professionals with low all round personality  who wouldn't fit into  today's globally connected world.
Dubai is thus sitting at the cusp of  a huge opportunity it can hardly ignore. But Dubai being what it is, will surely be well prepared to take the bull by the horns and create a strong education hub that will be one of Dubai's strongest economic pillars as it weans its economy away from decades of dependence on exports of natural resources.

Good Luck to Dubai

  1. Glad to know that Dubai does not only invest into tourism but is equally worried for the future of little kids. I hope Dubai will be successful in its mission to build more schools for bright futures.
